Welcome to Grace United Methodist Church!

Ten folks gathered back in 1972 believing God was calling them to a common task, to start a new church in West Sherman that would be open to all people and share God’s love through Jesus Christ in all ways. This church would be relevant to what was happening in the world, passionate about sharing Christ with that world, and creative in its missional approach. It was obvious to them what the name of such a church should be – “Grace!”

That vision of GRACE is alive and well on Sunday mornings as the congregation gathers for traditional worship at 8:30 a.m., Sunday School for all ages at 9:50 a.m., and blended worship at 11:00 a.m. You will find people dressed comfortably, from casual attire to sport coats. There really is no dress code here.

Located on a beautiful wooded lot (including one huge Oak tree!) at the corner of Highway 1417 (also known as Heritage Parkway) and Canyon Creek Drive, there are entrances from either street into the parking area of this red brick structure with brown trim. We recommend for your first visit that you use the Canyon Creek Drive entrance (on the north side) as it is most convenient to the main entrance that is to your right as you approach the building. Guest parking is available in several spaces closest to the doors.

You will be warmly greeted as you enter the double doors by greeters and other members of this contagiously friendly congregation. Once inside the doors, the worship area or Celebration Center is to your right where you will find a couple of hundred individual chairs arranged in a semi-circle around a platform where the altar table and pulpit are situated. You may sit wherever you desire. If you come a few minutes early, please enjoy a cup of coffee that is in the hallway straight ahead after entering the doors. Coffee is also available after the services, as well.

Most of our members wear nametags to help you learn their names easier, but we do not expect anything of our guests. You will not be asked to stand up or publicly identified in any way. You are not even asked to put anything in the offering plate at the time of the offering! However, we do hope you will fill out the Welcome Card as everyone else does (it is our attendance registration). We request that first-time guests hold onto these cards until the end of the service and take them to the kitchen area that is located just beyond the main doors of the Celebration Center. There a hospitality person will have a small gift for you to take home. Our intention is for you to experience the warm welcome of a church that dares to call itself “Grace.”

If you want to visit a Sunday School class, you will find the descriptions of the classes here. Feel free to ask one of the greeters to help you find the class location. Also, the pastors and staff are available following the services and sincerely want to meet you.

So, plan to visit Grace this next Sunday! Call or email us if you have any questions. Just look for the friendly-looking building with the big round stained glass window that displays all kinds of colors arranged in all shapes and sizes – just like our congregation who wants to offer God’s Grace to the world and to you!
