Happy New Year!

Andy and I decided that we are truly adults this year because neither of us had any interest in staying up until midnight to ring in the new year. It’s so funny how these seasons change: When I was a kid, I absolutely wanted to stay up but wasn’t allowed to. When I was in my 20’s, I was often a band widow as Andy headed out to play a gig, so I would stay up with Dick Clark and go to bed.

When I was in my 30’s, I don’t remember what happened because we were up to our elbows with babies and preschoolers – it’s all a blur! And now, in our 40’s, we know the time will pass whether we watch it or not and we’d rather have a good January 1, well-rested and ready for a new year.

This moment in time is an opportunity for reflection and resolution. As I look back and forward, I am deeply grateful for Grace United Methodist Church. Our church family has a deep legacy of love and faithfulness that I am glad to claim and continue.

I am also grateful for all of our church leaders. This Sunday, we will recognize members of our Church Council who have faithfully served – Gerri Bandemir, Vicki Busby, and Clark Krov – and welcome those who are stepping up to begin this season of service – Athena Michelle Gardner, Drew Wade, and Harrison Dominick and Oliver Krov (sharing the youth rep. seat).

Please join me in praying for them, for all of us, and for how God is calling us to continue in loveand faithfulness in a new year. I look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday!

peace,

Jessica.
